2008-10-14
The Brampton Lions FC just missed out on reaching the Semi-Finals of the CSL by losing to the Italia Shooters 1-0 with the goal being scored in the 114th minute.Esther Shiner Stadium, October 10th 2008 - The Brampton Lions FC (7) faced the Italia Shooters (2) in North York with hopes of knocking out the higher seeded team and advance to the semi-finals to face the Serbian White Eagles.
The game proved to be a great game with chances at both ends. It was evident that both teams knew that they would have to be on top form to make it through to the next round.
Daniel Nascimento played well but was denied a penalty decision by referee Manuel Orellano at the 66th minute mark when it appeared that Daniel was tripped from behind in the box after and great piece of individual effort to get ahead of the defender on the goal line.
Alex Arbelo had another great chance when he took a free kick in the 83rd minute and saw it hit the crossbar. Minutes later Italia Shooters' Jason DeThomasis also hit the bar after receiving a cross from the right from Matthew Palleschi.
This game would be all even at the 90th minute mark and would head to silver goal. All seemed to be heading towards another 30 minutes of a goalless affair when out of nowhere in the 114th minute Jason DeThomasis drew Lions goalkeeper Kevin Doyle out of net and headed it over him leaving Marco Terminesi to place in the ball from about 10 yards out.
The Lions pressed for the next 7 or so minutes but the referee blew the final whistle and the game was done.
